How to Stay Organized in a Busy Household

Stay organized

It can be difficult to stay organized in a busy household. There are always chores to be done, meals to be cooked, and clothes to be put away! It can be easy to let a mess build up, so we’ve sourced a few tips that will help you maintain a more organized household. Organizing can feel overwhelming, so it is so important to find a system that works for you and your family. These tips will help you maintain an organized space, leaving you with more time to relax with your family and less time spent cleaning!

Set Aside A Specific Time for Organizing

What Moms Love suggests setting aside specific time for organizing on a schedule that works for you. Instead of putting pressure on yourself to organize on a daily basis, find a time that works for you and try to organize as much as you can during that time slot. If you have free time on Monday afternoons, you could make that your weekly organizing slot! Having a set time and date to organize allows you to feel in control of your schedule and household chores.

Donate What You No Longer Use

In our How To Shop Sustainably for Your Family blog post, we mentioned the importance of thrift shopping. Thrift shopping is an amazing way to save money while also outfitting your family in sustainable, high-quality clothing items. However, it’s also a great idea to donate your gently used furniture, toys, and clothing to your local thrift stores. If your family has items they no longer use, donating these items will help declutter your home and create more space for your essentials.

Get Creative with Storage

Do you have toys all over your house? Investing in some storage bins or boxes is a great way to organize your house and create space for your children’s toys and essentials. You can have your kids get creative and help you create decorative labels for the boxes. You can also create storage boxes for your extra kitchen supplies, bathroom supplies, or other essentials. The next time you run out of an item, you’ll know where you stored your backups!

Meal Prep for the Week

When you figure out a menu for the week, it can make grocery shopping and meal prepping far easier. We recently shared our favourite Healthy Winter Meal Ideas which are family-friendly and delicious! When your family already has a busy schedule, it can be very helpful to finish the grocery shopping early in the week so you have your meals organized. Pro tip: make extras so that you can eat your leftovers for lunch or for a snack the next day! You’ll save time cooking and have extra prepared food for later!

It’s impossible to always have a perfectly organized house, so don’t stress when things get messy! Setting aside time to organize is important, but remember that perfection isn’t the goal! Everyone is doing the best they can, so make sure to give yourself some credit too. Happy organizing everyone!
